For anyone planning on proposing, take note!
There are so many ways to incorporate unique things from your relationship into your proposal. Whether its at a favorite spot, a bucket list destination, eating your favorite food, or whatever it is that you both love!
In this case, Dylon chose to propose to Abby use momentos from their relationship at a bucket list destination.
Dylon & Abby headed out on a nearly month long road trip across the country. They stopped at many of the wonderful National Parks and destinations on their bucket lists. Near the beginning of their trip, they stopped at Grand Teton National Park.
A few weeks prior, Dylon contacted me and told me he wanted to propose to Abby. He wasn’t sure where, when or how he was going to do it. He told me they had never had professional photos taken of them, and wanted to use that as a disguise to ensure the proposal was captured. We talked through location options and decided on the majestic Grand Tetons. I made suggestions to include personal items and mementos from their relationship, to help make the experience all that more personal.
As the week of the proposal arrived, there was an unexpected snow storm across northern Utah, southern Idaho and northwest Wyoming. And another storm on the way. Nearly anytime it snows on or near a mountain range, the clouds sink low. So low, you wouldn’t even know there were mountains. On the originally planned day for the proposal, another storm hit the area. I knew we wouldn’t be able to see the majestic mountains they were coming to visit. We chatted it through and decided to push the proposal back a day to ensure we could get the views they were coming for. Good thing we did!!
The new day of the proposal ended up being bright, sunny and beautiful!! The tips of the mountains were freshly coated with new snow, and very little on the valley floor.
We started off by visiting different locations in the park. At the beginning, we were further away, looking at these towering mountains as a whole. With each location we kept getting closer to these sky-high peaks.
Grand Teton was showing off! The mountains were in clear view, herds of elk and caribou were roaming around, the falls leaves were vibrant and it was the perfect fall day!
About halfway through our time together, we stopped at a new location, where Dylon would pop the question. As we were walking up to the spot, we all exclaimed how magnificent the mountains looked. While Abby was soaking up the views, Dylon pulled out their adventure journals. He had written Abby a beautiful letter. As she was reading it, I could tell she knew what was about to happen, while simultaneously in shock.
While she was reading and emotion filled the air, Dylon pulled out a very special black box and got down on one knee. He asked and she said yes!! Her reaction says it all!
Dylon brought a special bottle of wine that they acquired several years earlier, that they were saving for a special occasion. They celebrated and took in the moment.
We continued exploring the park and hiked on the edge of a lake near sunset. Near the beginning of our hike, we saw a herd of elk crossing and moving down the lake. We stopped in awe of these beautiful creatures! Then they seemed to follow us down the lake. It was so cool!
There’s nothing quite like a proposal, especially a National Park proposal.
If you’re proposing soon, I would love to chat and document that moment for you! Let’s chat!
