I'm in love with Moab, Utah for SO many reasons, but all-in-all Moab is an adventurers dream! Whether or not you’ve been to Moab before, it’ll blow you away! No matter how many times I go to Moab, I am constantly astonished by the landscape’s colors & formations, the insanely gorgeous weather, and the endless amount of adventures to be had.

We'll get into the fun-stuff, like locations and things to-do, in a minute, but first things first.

Marriage License
In Utah, you can obtain your marriage license based on the county you'll be getting married in. Its super simple, you can go in-person to the county offices a day or two before to get your marriage license. After you obtain it, it's only good for 30 days. Moab is located in Grand County Utah. There are some amazing spots just outside of Moab that are in San Juan County

To obtain a marriage license in Grand County or San Juan County, you'll fill out the application and appear in person with your IDs, and they'll issue your marriage license for $50. There's no waiting period and you can use it immediately!

Officiants & Witnesses
For any wedding in Utah, you will need someone ordained to solemnize a marriage + 2 witnesses, over the age of 18. If needed, I'm happy to be a witness for you! Don't forget a black pen for them to sign your marriage license.

Permits
Depending where in Moab you get married, you may need an additional permit or letter of authorization. I can help you find a location and through the permit process. The government agencies in the area that manage land usage have lots of amazing info online that we can utilize. Here are a few links for different land areas in Moab, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park,  Deadhorse Point State Park, BLM Land.

What to know - the techinal stuff - About Eloping in moab

Best time of year to elope & WEather info for Moab Utah

The seasons in southern Utah are phenomenal! Each season brings something new and exciting!
Personally my favorite time of the year is the spring and late fall in Moab, but I've listed all the things you need to know about each season and it's weather to help you plan for the best elopement ever.

Note: Moab Utah is 4,000 ft up to 7,100 ft above sea level. If you are not used to such high elevations there are steps you can take before hand to help prevent altitude sickness.

Winter
Average Temperatures: High: high 40°s Low: low 20°s
Moab is definitely not your classic winter wonderland but it is stunning in the winter. Occasionally there will be some snow, but not much. On average it will rain a few times a month, but most of the time its nice & sunny!
Layers are encouraged in the winter, especially if you are heading out before the sun comes up or staying out after it goes down.

Spring
Average Temperatures: High: mid 80°s Low: mid 40°s
Spring is an amazing time to visit Moab. All the desert foliage is blooming & greening up! It looks phenomenal against the red rock. Just like winter, it may rain a couple times a month, but you can expect sunshine most days! You may need a jacket in the morning or after the sun has gone down.

Just a reminder that Moab (and most National Parks), their busy season begins in the spring, due to spring breaks across the country. If possible, make reservations as early as possible

Summer
Average Temperatures: High: low 100°s Low: mid 70°s
If you love the heat, summer in Moab was made for you! Sunshine nearly everyday and hardly any rain makes for beautifully consistent weather.  Early mornings and late night adventures are best to beat the heat. Near the end of the summer and into early fall, there may be a few monsoon or rainstorms. Typically the storm itself doesn't last long, but the after effects of water running into the canyons can last for 24-48+ hours afterwards.

Make sure you drinks LOTS of water, especially if you live in a cooler & wetter climate.

Fall
Average Temperatures: High: mid 70°s Low: mid-low 40°s
Fall is my favorite time to visit & explore Moab. There aren’t nearly as many crowds and the temperatures are just right. The average high is in mid 70°s, with the average low in the mid 40°s. There is a few more days of rain in the fall, but most of the time you can expect sunshine.

If you have the option to elope in Moab in the fall, I HIGHLY recommend it!

Best Elopement adventure Locations in Moab Utah

Moab is full of adventure and jaw-dropping views around every corner. You have the opportunity to be down on the valley floor, looking up at the towers above, or be on the cliffs admiring the canyon below. No matter what type of adventures you crave, Moab has something for you! From hiking, rock climbing, off-roading, a private helicopter ride, and so much more!

Due to the nature of popular outdoor recreation areas like Moab, I strive to keep the area safe and protected. For this reason, while following Leave No Trace principles, I do not openly disclose the exact locations. With every couple I work with, I will recommend specific spots for you to choose from, based on your skill level, the kind of adventure you're looking for, and seasonal factors. Once you contact me, I'd love to chat more about specific locations!

Arches National Park
Arches is by far one of the most iconic areas of Moab (have you seen the Utah license plates?) and the entrance is just a few minutes outside of town. Throughout most of the park you're on the floor looking up at the stunning arches, fins, and towers inside the park. There are several stunning viewpoints where you are looking out over the landscape.

Arches is one of the more crowded areas on Moab, and throughout the more popular months, you may need a timed-entry ticket to enter the park, if you’re eloping or just visiting. It is definitely worth it, but during the busy-season, Arches is not the place to go if you want to avoid crowds. There are so many amazing spots in Arches (not just the iconic Delicate Arch), so don't be afraid to explore away from the crowds (in designated areas, of course)!

There are 6 locations designated within the park for the ceremony part of your Elopement. Don’t worry though! After the ceremony we can further explore the park, go on a hike, and take some amazing photos to document your day! You'll need to apply for a permit to get married in Arches. Don't be intimidated by the permit process, its not as scary as it seems, I promise!  Applications take 4 weeks or more to process, so don't leave it to the last minute, and there is $185 application fee. The National Park service has been kind enough to provide us with this awesome page to provide you with specific information regarding locations within the park, permits, planning, and regulations.

Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands is phenomenal and will have your jaw dropping at every view point! No matter if you're above or below the rim, the view will capture your attention and make it hard to look away.

Canyonlands is about a 45 minute drive from the town of Moab, it is a bit less crowded than Arches, and the park size is bigger (aka more places to explore). There are different sections of the park, that will give you differing views and adventures. The Island in the Sky is the more well-known area of the park. In this district you'll primarily be standing atop the canyon looking down. You can see for miles! Its insane! The Needles district is on the valley floor and requires you to go south out of Moab. There are some stunning rock formations in the Needles and the views above are just as amazing. The Maze district is the less accessible and requires a high-clearance vehicle to reach. Its name does it justice. Its a labyrinth below the canyon that is stunning around every turn, The parks main website has tons of good information to help you prepare for your visit, no matter where you decide to explore.

In order to get married in Canyonlands you will need a permit and choose from one of their designated ceremony locations. Within Canyonlands National Park there are 5 designated locations for your Elopement Ceremony. Just like, Arches, after the ceremony we can keep the adventure going!  Applications take 4 weeks or more to process, so don't leave it to the last minute, and there is $185 application fee. This is the wonderfully helpful page from the National Park Service to help you navigate planning an elopement in Canyonlands.

Deadhorse Point State Park
Deadhorse Point State Park puts you on the rim looking down into the canyon below, where the Colorado River twist and turns among the towers. Its on the way to Canyonlands National Park, about 40 minutes outside of town. While it may seem small geographically, the views are HUGE! Plus, I've never felt crowded while visiting.

There are easy to access viewpoints that you can practically drive right up to, or you can take a walk to along the rim to find your own view of the canyon. There is an impressive amount of interconnected trails or hiking and mountain biking, that take you near the canyons rim so you can view every angle of the view there is.

In Deadhorse Point, there are 5 designated ceremony locations and a permit is required. You can submit your permit request up to 18 months in advance, but no less than 30 days before. Permits start at $60.  Deadhorse Point has a very informative wedding packet, with photos of the ceremony sites, and more!

My Secret Spots
Since my husband and I love Moab, during our own adventures, we have found some beautiful & secluded spots, that are perfect for elopements! Some spots are within the various parks, or just off the beaten path. If you are interested in eloping in one of my “secret spots” in Moab, let’s chat!

I keep these locations to myself to ensure that my couples are able to have the kind of elopement they’re dreaming of and protect the fragile desert biome. These spots are secluded, perfect for the intimate-adventurers. and full of desert life! Throughout this guide you can find photos that are from my “secret spots” list.

There are so many options of things to do while in the Moab area, I've listed a few of my favorites. If you're looking for something more specific, I'm happy to help you find something that's right for you!

Things to do in Moab for your Adventure elopement

Hiking
One of my favorite & most frequented activities! There are tons of hiking trails everywhere you go in Moab!
At one of the visitor centers in town or in one of the parks, you can grab a map full of hiking trails for the area. Personally, I've found some of my favorite hikes through these maps, since not all the hikes in the area can be found online. When possible, I suggest using AllTrails to assess its difficulty level and see what other hikers have to say about it!

Biking
Moab has some of the best mountain biking around! Many of the trails are world-famous and there's a wide variety of length & difficulty.
If road or bike path biking is more for you, there are some amazing roads (like Potash Road) with amazing views. Additionally, the town has a great bike & walking path system that can connect you to Arches National Park, or follows the river out of town to the East for stunning canyon views.

Off- Roading, Jeeping, and Razor Rides
A true classic! Whether you're bringing your own vehicle, renting one in town, or going with a guide, taking tires to the trail is one of the best ways to see Moab. We love renting from Twisted Jeeps. There are countless trails! From roads & trails taking you to a destination, like Marlboro Point, or one that is meant for the journey and tricks, like Fins & Things, there's something for everyone.

Off-roading for elopements is the perfect option, especially if you have a few guests with you. It allows you freedom & flexibility, one of a kind views, and a way get out of the heat on those hotter days.

Helicopter & Hot Air Balloon Rides
There's nothing like visiting the area from above with a birds eye view! Whether you take a tour (& maybe even land somewhere special) with one of Moab's helicopter tour companies or take it slow with a hot air balloon ride with Red Rock Ballooning or Canyonlands Ballooning, it'll be an experience you'll never forget. Seeing the towering cliffs from above is beautiful beyond belief!
